Matterport, the global leader in spatial data capture and 3D virtual tours, was at a critical inflection point in 2019. They needed to open their closed ecosystem to third-party cameras, expand into enterprise verticals, and position for a potential public offering — all while bridging a CMO transition and operating on a startup budget that made traditional Times Square advertising impractical. The Artesian Network stepped in as strategic marketing leadership.

Key Results

  • Oversubscribed launch party with unprecedented influencer and investor participation
  • Record qualified-lead volume from booth traffic and geo-fenced campaigns
  • Follow-up webinar series at 300% of attendance goals, fueling rapid growth of the Service Provider network
  • Surge of investor interest laying the groundwork for the company’s successful IPO
  • Matterport reached a market cap of $8 billion on its November 2021 IPO

The Challenge

Matterport needed to execute a pivotal platform launch — opening its closed ecosystem to third-party cameras and expanding beyond its real estate base into enterprise verticals including insurance, construction, and cultural preservation. The timing was critical: the company was positioning for a potential public offering, but was operating without a permanent CMO and on a startup budget that ruled out traditional Times Square advertising. They needed a launch that would punch far above its weight — generating press, leads, and investor attention simultaneously.

What We Did

Operating as Matterport’s strategic marketing leadership, The Artesian Network developed and executed a multi-part, integrated launch plan:

  • Branded restaurant partnerships with 3D-captured venues and promotional coasters to build pre-event buzz
  • Pre-event email awareness campaigns and geo-targeted SMS campaigns during the event to drive foot traffic
  • A premium trade show booth showcasing the open ecosystem with six 50-inch interactive 3D touch panels — built in one week
  • Mobile billboard trucks circulating Times Square, bypassing expensive static billboards for a fraction of the cost
  • An exclusive launch party at a Times Square hotel, designed to create a high-touch experience for influencers, partners, and investors
  • A record-breaking follow-up webinar series to convert launch interest into qualified pipeline

The Outcome

The launch party was oversubscribed with unprecedented influencer and investor participation. Booth traffic exceeded expectations, generating record qualified leads. The geo-fenced SMS campaign drove additional foot traffic to the booth. Follow-up webinars saw a 300% increase over attendance targets, fueling rapid growth of Matterport’s Service Provider network.

New investment inquiries surged, laying the groundwork for the company’s successful public offering. Matterport went public in 2021, reaching a market cap of $8 billion. The Artesian Network’s strategic leadership during this critical CMO transition helped Matterport evolve from a niche real estate tool to a global spatial data powerhouse.
